In the “Good advice from young minds” campaign the focus is on dialogue with young people and the major dilemmas facing both Norway and our industry. Young people with different perspectives, backgrounds and approaches have met Statoil’s executives for dialogue and reflection. The meetings have been documented and edited into several short films. The young people who have taken part have no direct connection to Statoil. Yet they are curious and enthusiastic about topics that affect us all; climate and welfare, jobs, innovation and new energy solutions. In this film we meet Murshid M. "Running Minds" is an idea created by 5th grade students at Antelope Ridge Elementary in Aurora, CO. When we were thinking about how to connect Colorado's youth with daily physical activity, we considered what resources we have available to us at our school. For many kids, the safest, most secure environment is their school. That's why we decided to use our school grounds as a means to promote healthy lifestyles. Our school is designed like a loop. The inner circle of the building connects all the pods of classrooms. So we thought, "Let's turn that loop into a track!" Students can enter the loop to the right to prevent traffic issues, and either run two laps to their destination in the building, or walk one. From there, the idea took off! We considered how we could connect with a company like fitbit to track individual activity levels. Students could log this information and track their growth. An app could be created to make physical activity fun and interactive by including pins students can unlock for a certain amount of minutes earned. As a school, we can give out a physical activity award every trimester. This idea could then spread to other schools in our district, other districts, and perhaps the state. Not every school is designed like a circle, but they could be capable of creating running lanes in their hallways. What if there was a metro area "Running Minds School of the Month" based on total student participation? Other ideas to grow the idea that we could not fit in the video were special hall passes for "brain breaks," as well as special indoor recess passes...students could have the option to run laps in the hall instead of sitting and watching a movie on rainy and snowy days. A running path could also be built on school grounds to give students the option to run during recess. "Running Minds" is an easy, affordable way to connect Colorado youth with daily physical activity!

On a rainy afternoon at the Brooklyn Park branch of the Hennepin County Library, Osseo High senior Christine Chukwuocha is helping young kids create. They're using a Cameo - a machine that looks like a regular printer, but instead of ink on paper, the Cameo sends a sharp needle flying over sheets of vinyl to cut out shapes for stickers. Chukwuocha leans over a young girl working on an iPad, showing her how to take a picture, turn it into a black silhouette, and then send it to the Cameo. A few minutes later, the girl peels back the outline of a panda's head - her very own, custom-made sticker. It's one of many workshops in a library program called Teen Tech Squad. Youth Services Librarian Adele Murray says it's like a job training program for the teens. "We just pay them while we're doing it, so communications skills, planning, adapting to rapidly changing circumstances, and lots of other good job skills to have will be under their belts," said Murray. But Chukwuocha says it's not just the Squad members who benefit. "I wanted to help empower the youth here. I actually saw the library as an avenue to get youth more involved." The teens have a big hand in deciding what each workshop focuses on. They can be anything from 3d printing to music production to science. Library Youth Coordinator Bernie Farrell says it's about getting kids of all ages to learn outside of school. "Part of what we try to do is encourage kids' interests and what their passions are because you're really motivated to learn about what you're really interested in," said Farrell. Chukwuocha, who already has her eye on medical school, says the experience she's getting with the squad will mean a lot for her future. "I learned leadership. I learned to pick up those leadership skills and be more organized." Teen Tech Squad employees work about 25 hours a month on nights and weekends, earning $15 an hour, and they're hiring right now. The squad is taking applications through April 7th on the Hennepin County Library website, http://hclib.org/about/jobs. The workshops provide actionable items intended to address current workplace issues, and provide participants with applicable tools and concepts. Panelists Jessica Bailey | Individual Giving Manager, Oakland Museum of California Amy Cohen | Executive Director, Exhibit Envoy Aimee Espiritu | Co-Program Director, Youth Speaks Carol Tang | Executive Director, Children’s Creativity Museum Pam Wong | Deputy Director, Chinese Historical Society of America This event was held on April 29, 2017. To view the entire panel discussion, please visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l09LGfE-8KM. Organized and hosted by the JFKU Museum Studies Student Association (MSSA), the association is dedicated to increasing communication between students and faculty in the Museum Studies Program while working to enhance the program as a whole. As a program that celebrates forums instead of temples, we celebrate the community that pursues higher education at John F. Kennedy University, and wish to enrich it by coming together as one in an association that is socially responsible, offers career development and networking, educationally supportive, and fun. On a cold, frosty November morning at the new farm, Jared and Mike hang two stands on the edge of a doe bedding area.  As daylight breaks, it doesn't take long for the oldest deer on the farm, "Gronk," to be at the base of their tree.  The guys make a quick camera switch in the tree, and Mike makes a great shot on the old warrior.
